Extractions

Dental extraction is a removal of a tooth from the mouth. It is performed for a variety of reasons which can include:

  • Tooth decay
  • Impacted teeth
  • Trauma
  • Orthodontic reasons
  • Periodontal disease

Your dentist will carry out an examination before a tooth is extracted. This may include:

  • Xrays being taken
  • A course of antibiotics if an infection is present
  • A run through of your medical history as certain medication can complicate the extraction.

Once the tooth has been removed, after care treatment will be discussed with you.

In some cases after a thorough examination of medical history and xrays, the tooth is deemed as a complicated extraction, you may be referred to an oral surgeon for its removal.
